We’re here with the current
SCF Lightweight Champion Sasha Marquez and the first thing people want to know
is, what’s it like finally wearing gold?





Sasha


It’s no secret that every
title shot I’ve ever had I just couldn’t deliver and I’d bomb totally. So to
finally get over whatever problem that is feels great.





Sherdog


You’ve looked impressive on
the ground in your past few fights, not so much your stand up. Are you working
on that at all?





Sasha


I’m not a stand up fighter so
I’m not going to tell the press each fight that I’m going to knock someone out
because we all know that just isn’t happening. I stick to my game and get my
opponents on the ground and finish the fight. Yes, I will get rocked standing
but you have no chance keeping me standing. Everyone knows that as soon as we
go to the ground the fight is as good as over.

But what if the fight doesn’t
go to the ground and you are stuck standing? We’ve witnessed you nearly knocked
out a few times.





Sasha


I’ve been knocked out before
and I will get knocked out again. It comes with the territory. If I can prevent
myself from getting knocked out then I will do that.





Sherdog


You’ve also put on some very
impressive submissions from out of nowhere lately. How prepared do your
opponents have to be for a sub that can come at any moment?





Sasha


Well… just don’t get caught.
Easier said than done, I know. How prepared? They should always be prepared.
Chances are it still won’t help them though. I’m faster than Speed Racer.





Sherdog


During the past few weeks
Arnold Hemingway has been proclaiming some pretty outlandish things. Care to
comment?





Sasha


He’s just playing a character
in order to make more money. You come out to that cage with this ego; people
will pay to see you get knocked out or subbed. In the end Hemingway makes his
dollar no matter what. He knows he doesn’t have what it takes otherwise he
would have finished Wong.
